Spanish Language and Culture Classes

PROGRAM FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR
All courses involve a minimum of 80 hours and a maximum of 100 hours per month. Students will have classes from Monday to Friday. Courses are structured in, four levels (eight levels in summer)

  • Advanced
  • Upper-Improvement

Courses go from January to June and October to December
From 9 January to 23 June
From 2 October to 15 December

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Classes are held from Monday to Friday. In language classes, groups are small with a maximum of 15 students. The minimum age for registration is 16. Students must attend classes regularly. It is essential to attend 90% of classes on the Spanish language course and to complete at least one module (20 hours) on Spanish culture.

Courses are made of two parts (part A and part B) that are mandatory. An optional part is also available and it is described as part C

A) LANGUAGE CLASSES structured in at least eight levels.

B) CULTURE MODULES
Each Module on Spanish culture covers a different subject and involves 10 or 20 contact hours.

Module 1 (20 hours)
- Visual, audiovisual and performing arts in Spain in the 20th and 21st centuries.

Module 2 (20 hours)
- Spanish and Latin American fiction and poetry in the 20th and 21st centuries.

Module 3 (20 hours)
- Spain in the 20th - 21st centuries: History, Geography and Society in contemporary Spain.

Module 4 (20 hours)
- Spain, 20th-21st centuries: Economics, Law and Health in Spain and the European Union.

Module 5 ( 10 hours )
Translation:
- English,
- French,
- German,
- Italian.

Module 6 ( 10 hours )
- Spanish for Business

Module 7 ( 20 hours )
- Spanish culture and civilisation (taught in English),
- Spanish culture and conversation (taught in Spanish).

Module 8
- Theatre workshop in Spanish.

Modules 1, 2, 3 and 4 are mandatory for students in the following levels: lntermediate B,
Advanced A and B and Higher A and B.

Module 7: Taught in English for Beginners A students, who may choose it as an optional
subject (provided there is a minimum number of students). Given in Spanish for Beginners B
and lntermediate A students (optional). In September this module is only given if a sufficient number of students register for it.

Module 8: Optional for Intermediate 6, Advanced and Higher students (10 hours in July and 20 hours in August). In September, the modules will be organised depending on the number of students. Courses in Spanish language and culture shall be structured in at least four levels.

In addition to compulsory language classes, there will be classes on Spanish culture for students at the intermediate, advanced and higher levels up to a compulsory total of 80 hours (which may be voluntarily extended to 100 hours).
