Grenoble, What Is Included?

Tuition and Fees
The University of Grenoble, France is one of the best institutions for French instruction in the country. All teachers are university professors accredited by the French Ministry of Education. Their long-standing experience teaching the French language to international students is highly appreciated by participants.

Airport reception
Airport reception by EUS staff will depend on your choice of program. The semester and academic year (language and culture program) students will be met at Charles De Gaulle airport (CDG) as part of the EU StudyAbroad Paris Arrival program. They will be transferred to Grenoble after spending a few days exploring and sightseeing in Paris, the magnificent city of lights. Students who choose the ‘one-month intensive program’ and the summer students will be met at the Lyon Saint Exupery Airport (LYS) and then will be transferred to Grenoble by the EU StudyAbroad staff. In case they don't fly to Lyon, they will be met at the train or bus station in Grenoble. However, if you prefer to make your own arrangements (i.e coming alone via bus, train or car) to Grenoble, please just let us know and a EU staff member can make arrangements to meet you on your arrival.

Arrival excursion in Paris
For semester students, the Paris arrival excursion is meant to help students with the process of adapting to their new cultural surroundings by providing them with a smooth transition. Students are met on arrival at the airport and transferred to the BVJ in downtown Paris. After spending a few days exploring Paris and its monuments, the group will travel to Grenoble by the TGV, the well-known French bullet train.

As the Program Director for Grenoble, France, Karen supports students who travel to and study at the Universities of Grenoble. Originally from Idaho, she studied French and Fine Arts at the University of Boise State. She has an enthusiasm for study abroad and working with students in the beautiful city of Grenoble has been her passion. Her hobbies include photography, painting, and composing music and in her spare time she loves to hike the mountain trails around Grenoble. As a study abroad student once herself, her experience has helped her understand what it is like to study in a foreign country. Karen believes studying abroad is one of the most life-changing experiences a student can have and she considers herself lucky to have the chance to make this dream come true for students around the country and the world.

Grenoble office
Located in the center of Grenoble, our office is an important landmark where students can come and meet with our on-site staff during office hours for whatever need may arise, from discussing academic issues to planning an independent trip throughout France or Europe. The office is equipped with information on Grenoble, the Isere region, and various other places in France and countries within in Europe. Upon arrival students will receive additional material to complement their orientation package of Grenoble. The information will act as your companion to studying at the University of Grenoble and will be very useful for study abroad students in order to get to know the town and surrounding area.

On-site orientation
"How do I go about doing this or that?", "What if??", "Will I offend the French if ...?" Orientation is provided to help students move toward a smooth transition and to take care of any apprehension they may be nurturing in the early stages of their time abroad. As part of the Orientation EU StudyAbroad students will be given a tour of the city centre and will be pointed out the main areas and necessary locations.

Housing
(homestay, apartment with French student and university dorms)Housing is key to our programs. We maintain a network of dependable families carefully selected with the student in mind. The families are, after all, the ambassador of their country's culture and are expected to act in such a manner. Our housing options include the following: homestay, apartments with French students and university dorms, all are ideally located around both the city and the campus.

Limited meal plan
Breakfasts are included for homestay students (Dinners are expected and included however at an extra cost). Students in dorms or apartments with French students will receive 15 meal tickets per month which can be used at the university restaurants.

Excursions
Excursions are one of the most exciting and rewarding parts of our programs as they to help students discover the country. EUS excursions include transportation, entrance to museums selected by the staff, accommodation, breakfasts and one dinner.

Cultural events and immersion activities
There are a number of extracurricular activities which students can choose to partake in, they focus on providing students with additional means of learning the language outside of school. The activities are meant to help students practice the language and build more confidence. Students have the opportunity to: joining local cultural associations, acting and cooking classes, and sports activities (these of course depend on the time of year and season).

Medical insurance
Students will have $250,000 of Accident and Sickness coverage that is underwritten by the ACE American Insurance Company. The coverage also includes service for Emergency Medical Evacuation and/or Repatriation, as well as 24/7 Emergency Assistance Services through Assist America. Email access
If students have their laptops they will be able to use the wireless Internet
access from the EUS office, during specific office hours. Access is also available at the University. A few selected housing options have internet access and some of these require an extra fee. The university also has internet access, students will be given a username and password when they receive their student ID cards.

Official University of Grenoble transcript
The University of Grenoble is an official French university with full recognition and accreditation from the United States Department of Education. Under these terms of recognition, American students attending the University of Grenoble will be issued official
transcripts illustrating all courses students have taken as well as class hours, grades and the appropriate equivalent grade in terms of an American University.

Mobile Phone
We believe that it is important that your family and friends be able to reach you when they need to. Each EU StudyAbroad student will be issued a cellular phone and phone number upon arrival in France. Incoming calls are not charged. Students are responsible for paying charges related to their outgoing phone calls and text messages.

Monthly bus pass
The monthly bus pass gives students unlimited access to the local buses and tramways. The Grenoble mass transit system, a network of tramways and buses that cover Grenoble and its outskirts, is rated as being the best in France.

Student card
EU StudyAbroad students will each receive an official Grenoble University student identity card after the placement tests and official registration has taken place. This will testify the students status as well as to give them certain student discounts to museums and other various activities on campus. With this card students can join some of the sports team on campus. While some sports will be free for students to join some other sports may require an extra fee.

Sports facilities

The University of Grenoble is a dynamic and impressive facility. Sports that are available include: ultimate frisbee, soccer, volley, grass hockey, rock climbing, martial arts and tennis. EU StudyAbroad students are issued a University of Grenoble student card that will give them access to all sport facilities on campus, which may include additional costs for the use of facilities. The University gym tends to have limited access in the summer. Students may also use one of the local and private gyms in town. The program director will provide them with information about these gyms.
