weekend in the French alps

That Sunday afternoon, with some friends we decided to go hiking in a town called "La Grave".

We drove south for about 45 minutes out of Grenoble and along the way saw all of those sites that make nature intriguing. There were more waterfalls and the mountains were all around us. And at one point in the trip we pulled over when we came upon a bridge that was on the edge of a huge body of water. The water was the most beautiful color of blue; and with the mountains in the background, it was picture perfect. Then we got back in the van and kept on driving.

Eventually we found where we needed to be and pulled over and took off on our hike. The bottom of the mountain was grass and dirt, but the top had a glacier on it. The glacier looked so close to the ground at first, but as we climbed I started to notice that reality set in and it was actually pretty far away. Along the way we saw a heard of sheep above, we didn't really know if they would charge at us, so we kind of let them pass.

Then we kept climbing and eventually got tired. When we stopped to turn around, there was a super tiny town behind us. I swear, there were less than 20 buildings in the whole town and the only thing surrounding it was nature-trees, grass, dirt and that's it. I took a picture because it is so hard to describe in words what makes this town look so special. I hope my picture turns out. The city was just so isolated, quiet and appeared to be so peaceful.

Then we turned and headed down the mountain. Going down the mountain was definitely easier than going up! On the way down, I picked up a slice of rock for a souvenir. Hopefully I can use it to make a cool picture frame for the photo.
